About the Music Ministry

The music ministry at Baptist Grove Baptist Church is a vital part of our worship every week.  Comprised of volunteers, the choir and praise team lead meaningful worship to personify the Baptist Grove Baptist Church mission: Bringing people to Christ, Growing in Christ, Being one in Christ, and Constantly on mission. The worship team aspires to live out Colossians 3:16 which reads, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord." 

A guiding scripture for the music ministry at Baptist Grove Baptist Church is Psalm 100

which reads, “Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness;

come into his presence with singing.”  Psalm 100:1-2

Meet our Minister of Music

My name is Ella Mitcham and I'm an original native of Newton, located in the western part of

North Carolina. My pursuit of music brought me to Campbell University where I began my 

studies in 2013. I recently graduated from Campbell in December 2019 with a Bachelors in

Education with a concentration in music. During my time at Campbell, I met my now fiancé

Jonathan Lazenby who also holds a bachelor's and 2 master's degrees from Campbell.

I believe God has instilled within me the gift of singing and that through music it is my obligation as a believer to share his message through song. In addition to singing my secondary instrument of choice is the trombone which I have played almost 13 years now. I enjoy every aspect of the outdoors and when the weather starts heating up I look forward to attending classic car shows. I Am grateful that God has led me here to Baptist Grove so I can be a servant to lead his people through music.

Cantatas and Special Events

Each year, the choir offers an Easter and Christmas cantata, as well as weekly special music for services.  Yearly trips around the community while caroling make an exciting time for the church, especially with a piano strapped to a trailer while we sing Christmas carols!

Other Music Activities

In addition to the choir, various other venues for worship through music are available at BGBC!  We are in the process of forming a hand bell choir and our children’s ministry provides an exciting worship experience in WEE Worship each Sunday.  If you have a child who loves to sing, this is a great way to get them plugged in at BGBC!  The children also perform an annual Christmas program telling the story of Jesus’ birth from the book of Luke.  

The music ministry is open to all ages and there is no audition.  We rehearse each Wednesday night at 6:45 pm in the choir room.   If you are interested in joining the choir and taking a leadership role through the music ministry at BGBC, please see Devin Hocutt.
